SNAKE IN A BOX

SNAKE IN A BOX

Art Basel | 2011

The installation designed by Rene Gonzalez Architect, utilized a series of serpentine-like platforms that were both spatially dynamic and seductively engaging. These elements worked in unison with the geometry of the glass enclosed space of Alchemist’s fifth level store while creating identifiable and original moments for the various collections on display. Comprised of various vignettes ranging from a 10-foot tepee by Chrome Hearts and a modular mirror clad prism by model and designer Erin Wasson to artist Darcy Miro’s “Devolution”- a skeleton made with her artisanal aesthetic of layered fabrications in metal - the installation helped stitch together merchandise for sale alongside art.

Another area of the space featured Givenchy ready-to-wear and accessories with the Visionaire book “Religion” created in collaboration with designer Riccardo Tisci and artist Marina Abramovic. In partnership with Sean Kelly Gallery, “The Contract” a photographic work by Ms. Abramovic, that was featured in the book was also on display.

The final component was an ode to the intensely private and intriguing inner sanctum of iconic designer Rick Owens and Michele Lamy, titled “at Home in Paris.“ Photographer Todd Selby was invited into their home and captured a series of compelling photographs that were featured exclusively during Basel. To celebrate the exhibit Mr. Selby also created one of-a-kind sketches that were for sale.
